Imbolc

It's Tuesday, February 2nd; Groundhog Day (the rodent saw his shadow), and with waking to about 10 inches of fresh snow, it's safe to say we're in for 6 more weeks of winter. At least here.

After shoveling, I came inside and contemplated what might be most worthy of my time and energy. Right now feels like a lot of 'hurry up and wait;' there are aspects of collective clean-up/disclosure that are starting to happen for folks who have not yet realized the whole West Wing show.

So, I'm taking a moment to honor Imbolc, which is a festival celebrating the pagan goddess Brigid, lasting from February 1st through sundown February 2nd.

I loved reading that "myths about Brigid’s birth say she was born with a flame in her head and drank the milk of a mystical cow from the spirit world." (Does she sound like a Hathor, or what?!)

Like the goddess Brigid, St. Brigid is associated with milk and fire.

As such, I will simply share this sweet traditional Irish Prayer:

Dear Saint Bridget of the kine

Bless these little fields of mine,

The pastures and the shady trees,

Bless the butter and the cheese,

Bless the cows with coats of silk

And the brimming pails of milk,

Bless the hedgerows, and I pray

Bless the seed beneath the clay,

Bless the hay and bless the grass,

Bless the seasons as they pass,

And heaven's blessings will prevail,

Bridget - Mary of the Gael.
